Planning A Wedding Around The Holidays

Since we are now in December and most public places used for wedding receptions are decorated for the holidays, it seems like a good time to talk about holiday weddings.

Some couples choose to get married at this time of year because they love the holidays and decor and want to include that in their special day. If you are one of those couples, this is a great time of year to get married, because an awful lot of your décor is also already done for you!

Other couples choose this time of year to get married because it just works for them. Perhaps they have a lot of family and friends who will be coming home for the holidays and by having a wedding during this time, they are more likely to have all those traveling guests at their wedding. Or, during this time of year, many people take vacation time and it is a way to make it easier for traveling guests to be at your wedding.

Either way, it is important to be mindful that the facility you choose for your wedding and/or reception may very well be decorated with some sort of holiday theme.

When you meet with your venues, I recommend you ask what type of décor they have planned for the holidays. I strongly recommend that you embrace the holiday décor and coordinate your wedding colors and theme with the décor that will be in place. You don’t want to clash with the in house décor, assuming that the “house” décor will be seen in your reception room.

I had a small wedding the Saturday after Thanksgiving at a local country club. The country club normally has their Christmas décor put on the day after Thanksgiving, but in this case the bride asked them NOT to decorate for Christmas until after her wedding. The country club agreed. I’ve also had a bride who got married in early January and wanted to have the Christmas décor in place because she loves Christmas…again, the country club complied.

So keep these things in mind when planning your wedding around the holidays. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask!
