We may still be in the midst of winter, however, with New Year now behind us we can start to look forward to making plans for the summer. There are several destinations that are a cut above the rest when it comes to stag weekends during the summer. Here are some top destinations worth considering for sun worshipers and cultural hounds alike;
Bournemouth
With some of the best sandy beaches and nightlife in the south, a Bournemouth stag do should be one of your top choices. You can top up the tan down at the beach whilst still feeling like you’ve gone abroad, all without the expense of flights!
Relax on the beach and get involved in some water sports by day whilst checking out the best bars and clubs in the Old Christchurch area by night. With the ease of everything being within walking distance from each other you can literally stumble from beach to bar in minutes.
If you fancy something a little different then why not visit for Bournemouth’s new festival called Musicosity. It takes place on the first weekend of September and puts on live music across different venues in Bournemouth over 3 days – the ideal entertainment for music lovers on a stag weekend.
Barcelona
For those, however, who want to explore foreign shores then pack your bags and make your way over to Spain. Barcelona stag weekends combine a culturally cool city break with long stretches of sandy beaches so you can experience the best of both worlds.
Wander down La Rambla and be entertained by the many street performers and stalls selling everything from funny caricatures to local fresh food, then go for a beer at the Port Olympico which is just ten minutes walk away.
If you can tear yourselves away from the bars then it’s worth seeing at least one of Antoni Gaudi’s stunning works of architecture. Gaudi was an important figure in modern architecture and his distinctive and individual style are an inspiration to see for those who appreciate a dose of culture.
The cobbled streets and courtyards of the Old Town area of the city lend themselves to wandering with no particular destination in mind and are great for discovering quirky bars where you and the guys can stop for a beer and watch the world go by. Make sure you grab some tapas to share too – the quintessentially Catalonian way of enjoying food.
When night falls Barcelona really comes alive and there’s something for everyone from quaint taverns serving up cheap beers to classy cocktail bars and contemporary nightclubs.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a fantastic destination all year round, however in the warmer months it really comes alive. One of the most enjoyable experiences during the summer is to take a boat trip down one of the many canals that make up Amsterdam’s unique canal system and sip on a cold beer whilst admiring the views.
If, however, you’d rather to stick to the land then why not sit outside one of Amsterdam’s many quirky and arty cafes where you can take in the canal views whilst catching up with the guys.
For those with an interest in local culture then Amsterdam has numerous museums and galleries to discover, and if you only have time for one then make sure it’s the Van Gogh museum which has the largest collection of his work in Europe.
Finally, after an afternoon of taking in the sights you’ll want to head out for a bite to eat and continue the party. For this the best places are Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein where you’ll find all the popular restaurants, bars and clubs which make for the perfect end to the evening.
Amsterdam stag weekends are ideal for those in search of something a little different. The city exudes individuality and the sense of freedom you’ll feel when you’re there will make you never want to leave.
