The idea of the bride’s family paying for the wedding is a bit outdated…and unfortunate for the bride’s parents. This “traditional,” if archaic, idea isn’t really the standard anymore, as sometimes the groom’s family pays, or both families pay. However, the cost ultimately falls on those getting hitched.
Weddings are…expensive. Family members and friends often give the happy couple generous gifts, but they rarely add up to cover the entire Big Day cost. If one of the couple’s parents are wealthy they might swoop in and pay for it all, but this is an exception, not the rule. So to sum up, the couple pays for the wedding, and any family and friends that can help do. Gay or straight, this is the norm. Find what works for you and go for it.
