My fiance and I are getting married in Hawaii in September-just the two of us, no guests are being invited to attend. We are, however hosting a reception when we return for family and friends for around 70ppl. Since our wedding will be informal and the reception is somewhat casual, do I need to apply formal addressing standards, ie. Mr. and Mrs. David Smith? Can I just address the invitations to David and Susan Smith?
Rebecca Black, Etiquette By Rebecca
Dear Addressing,
Go for the informal look. It will be fine. The invitations should convey the formality of the event.
There is a very strange, not mentioned much, and not taught anymore etiquette rule. A man’s last name is never separated from his first. I know, strange. But, many still follow this rule. So, it would probably be best to write, Sue and Bob Brown.
Best wishes,
