Our wedding will take place at 4pm on the beach in Mexico. Our bridal party is semi-formal; I (the bride) will be wearing a semi-formal gown with chapel train; groom will be wearing a tux.
Some of our guests have asked about dress attire. After the ceremony and pictures we will have dinner and dancing outdoors near the beach area; what is appropriate attire?
Rebecca Black, Etiquette By Rebecca
Dear Mexico Wedding,
Typically the guests would wear either tuxes or suits. Your groom is wearing a tux, so that sets the tone for the men. But, your reception is outdoors on the beach. It seems as if that would call for ‘evening resort’ attire. This would be something that we would feel comfortable wearing to a country club in the evening. Slacks and a nice shire (jacket optional) for men and a dress or nice separates are perfect for women. No sneaker, flip-flops, t-shirts, or shorts are worn.
If you want your guests to wear something more formal, it would be ‘cocktail attire’. This is suits for men and the little black dress or its equivalent for women.
It would be great to have your choice and a description of it for your guests as either an enclosure with your invitations or on your wedding website.
Best wishes,
