How to announce elopement

I’m having a hard time figuring out who should announce our elopement. My parents gifted us a large sum of money that we used (at their suggestion) for the down payment on our new home. We are planning to elope on New Year’s Eve and I would like to send announcements after we return.

Although my parents aren’t going to have the opportunity to host our wedding, I would like to give them the credit they deserve for our generous gift.

I would really appreciate some assistance with wording an elopement announcement from my parents, but am looking for something a little more creative than the standard

Mr and Mrs X have the honour of announcing

the marriage of their daughter,

Jane X

to

Jon Doe

on XXX date

I would really like to include something that would make it less formal, yet still pay the respect I am trying to get across. I’ve read every post and still don’t know what to do. The announcements I’ve picked are only 4″x4″ and I only get 14 lines to work with! Help please!

An announcement, unlike a wedding invitation, does not imply hosting of make mention of gifts received (or imply gifts received). It is simply an announcement which could be made by your parents or by you, the bridal couple. The wording can be as formal or informal as you like but the wording is not indicative of anything having to do with the wedding or marriage. You can read more about wedding announcement wording here.

Have a wonderful trip and enjoy that new home. What a gift! [:)]

I couldn’t agree more. And, that is a wonderful gift!
