Let’s face it, no matter how awesome your wedding day, most brides have some regrets, some things they would have done a little differently. We asked our readers what they would have changed and they came up with this list of the Top 10 Wedding Day Mistakes to avoid. Hopefully these lessons help you avoid wedding day disasters.
8) Make a List of Must-Take Photos
Lots of brides didn’t get specific photos they wanted, like a shot with their best friend or a siblings photo. Don’t expect your event planner, photographer or family to remember, there is just too much going on. Have your must-have photo list ready and make sure your photographer and guests know which photos you must have.
7) Listen To Your Gut, Don’t Cave to Other Opinions
This is a tough one, but most brides have a “sense” about certain things. A lot of our readers commented that they wanted their hair done a certain way or that make up that really suits them, yet they got talked out of it by a pushy planner or makeup artist. Don’t do that. This is your wedding day and you know yourself better than anybody else.
6) Test Your Gown in Different Lighting
This is one most brides don’t even think about. Try your dress on outdoors, in sunlight, in a hallway and anywhere else you think you might take photos or be seen.
5) Sit Down & Dance in Your Wedding Gown
Like the above mistake, most brides just don’t test their dress practically. You are going to walk, dance, eat and sit in your dress so you better make sure that it fits and performs under all those conditions. Sure it may look a little weird when you start dancing in the bridal store, but it is worth it to make sure everything goes smoothly.
4) Have Your Honeymoon Immediately
Weddings are exhausting. Most brides who waited to go on their honeymoon regretted it. If you can’t go on a long trip immediately, make sure you plan a few relaxing days with your new husband to at least recharge the batteries.
3) Know Where to Save Money. Know Where Not to
Most people don’t have an endless supply of money, so saving money on certain parts of a wedding is something all brides do. What is important in understanding where you can save and where it doesn’t make sense. Most brides wish they spent more money on their wedding band and music and less on other things that didn’t matter as much. It is an individual choice so make sure you’re honest with yourself.
2) Learn to Dance
Dance lessons aren’t expensive and when you’re under the lights in front of everybody, it is nice to show them you put in some effort. You want the guests to be entertained and to have an amazing memory of that first dance. Don’t look awkward during your obligatory first dance, look awesome.
1) Plan For Problems & Get Comfortable
Emergencies happen. A photographer has a family emergency, the caterer makes a huge mistake, it rains like cats and dogs. These things happen. Don’t lose sight of the fact that things happen and that what matters most is that you’re marrying the love of your life.
