Recently, I had the pleasure of connecting with Tina of Scealu of South Shore, a premiere wedding favor designer and artist. I told her, truly, these are some of the most elegant wedding favors I’ve seen, and I really meant it. I’m a huge beach lover, always have been, and even have a few rooms in my home decorated in a seascape theme and her work
captivated me. So, we began to chat on facebook, Tina and I, and she graciously offered to send me a few samples of her work to see in person. I was excited to be receiving these favors, but I was not prepared for the treasure chest that was delivered full of many samples, all carefully packaged works of art. I was blown away, not just by the favors, which were themselves exquisite and surely a gift every wedding guest would treasure, but by the entire process and by the artist too. She’s not only extremely talented, but she’s really very modest and sweet. Heck, even her business cards were gorgeous!
Tina lives with her husband and children on the shores of New England, so naturally her love of the ocean and her extensive background in art (including printmaking and fine arts) was a cool combo. Tina proudly confided, “My inspirations are my mom, who is an artist, and my mother in law, who is a go-getter. They both constantly encouraged me to go after this idea”. And a terrific idea, and a talented woman entrepreneur, was born in 1997.
Tina crafts these handmade ocean treasures lovingly, one by one, to be lasting keepsakes of your special day. No detail is spared. Though these unique pieces aren’t for the budget bride, they make wonderful keepsakes for destination weddings (since these usually have a small guest list) or a beach themed wedding where you want to make a big splash with your favors! There are an array of items
from which to choose including seashell and starfish wedding favors, beach themed bridal shower favors and even an entire coordinating collection to include ocean inspired favors, menus and table cards. The ribbon, ornaments, and even the paper backing is luxurious! Each one of these items comes carefully and individually wrapped in clear cellophane to protect the delicate items inside. You won’t have to do a thing with these babies! Just receive, arrange at your wedding reception or shower and wait for the “ooohs” and “ahhhs” that are sure to follow.
Not having a wedding but still love the sea? I think these favors make wonderful gifts for anyone who loves the beach. My first thought for an alternative use was Christmas ornaments. What better way to warm up the holidays than thoughts of a sun drenched sandy beach? Since Tina generously gifted me with several of her beauties I’m going to get some natural raffia and string a few up in a wall display for my bathroom and perhaps offer one to my son’s new mother-in-law who just bought a shore home on the NJ coast! I think it will make a nice addition to their beach theme there. So, the possibilities are many for these beach wedding favors. I encourage you to visit Tina’s website, Scealu of South Shore and let your imagination take you away!
